We just spoke to Matt McKee, COO of Premier Skateboard Association (PSA) and found out that together with SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park, they are announcing a series of historic firsts for the world's first true skateboarding league and the new, state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue and 2022 Super Bowl host. The venue will welcome the world's top skate athletes in its first-ever skateboarding event this summer, launching PSA's 2022 season.

But that’s not all - PSA will pay male and female skateboarders 10K each for skateboarding at each event and a winner takes all 10K at end of each event. At the end of the season, the final prize money for men and women is $250K. In addition to that, travel and per diem for every athlete are covered. So no more raiding your savings account to get to a contest!

The first event is on July 9, and will be televised on top television and digital platforms globally with distribution that rivals tier 1 sports. Skateboarders will be competing in a one-on-one battle jam session format.

As an "athlete's first" organization, PSA ensures both men's and women's grand prize winners secure a first-ever equal cash purse, television coverage as well as the opportunity to hoist the "Green and Gold" championship belt, produced in collaboration with the World Boxing Council.

Venice Ladies Day Jam 2021!

Photos

for Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word

Please feel fee to share your photo on social media - we just ask that you please credit @ianloganphoto and @girlisnota4letterword - thanks!

The 5th Annual Venice Ladies Jam kicked off Saturday AM under unseasonable warm weather, but that didn't stop the girls from skating hard and having fun. The sky was clear, the sun was out and everyone was having a blast meeting up with friends they hadn't seen in a long time.

Girls came from as far away as Las Vegas and the Ladies Day Jam played host to not one but THREE Skateboard Hall of Fame Inductees!  Gale Webb, Vicki Vickers and GN4LW founder Cindy Whitehead were all in attendance to cheer on the girls, help judge and take photos.

Every girl that skated was cheered on by her peers all throughout the day. One young girl was trying to drop in and received huge encouragement from the skaters her age "that she could do this!" ultimately one of the judges jumped into the bowl and helped her put her nerves aside and drop in, to the cheers of the crowd!

We have to thank all the support this event was given this year, not only by sponsors in the skate industry but also groups like Girls Play LA,  Angel City FC, and the City of Los Angeles.

We say this every year, but it is so true... The best part of this event is seeing so many girls come out and skate, meet one another, form friendships and they now have a group of girls to continue skating with throughout the year. That's what keeps these girls progressing.

Huge thanks to the City of Los Angeles, Mike Bonin LA City Council, LA Recreation and parks, Venice Recreation Center, Venice Art Walls, DJ VRSA, Skate Park Association International, Heidi Lemmon, Lance Lemond, Kimi Kallman, Bart Saric our fabulous announcer, Lonnie Hiramoto, all the judges and volunteers, the photographers who covered the event, as well as the numerous sponsors who sent so much product that the  girls went home with a big bags of swag.

Hope to see everyone again next year!

Get Your Tickets To The "Exposure X" Video Premier!

Jordyn Barratt at Exposure 2016 / Photo Ian Logan x Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word

The famous and historic La Paloma Theater in Encinitas will be teaming with female skaters next Saturday night. On November 6th the theater will become the site of the premier of Exposure's feature-length skate video, titled “Exposure X,” featuring 150 top female skateboarders from across the world.

The winners of each category will be highlighted during the event and awarded a total of $55,000 in prize money!

Tickets are just $10 and go on sale on Monday, November 1st on exposureskate.org.

Since it started 10 years ago, Exposure’s annual women’s benefit has grown into one of the largest skateboarding events for amateur and professional female skateboarders. Proceeds from the fundraiser, presented by Core Hydration, will go to the local nonprofit Community Resource Center’s domestic violence shelter, Carol’s House.

In past years the event is a live showcase featuring street, vert and park disciplines. Last year, because of the pandemic, the event included video parts and 230 female skateboarders from 23 different countries submitted curated compilations of their best skateboarding tricks.

This year, participants across age divisions submitted individual, two-minute videos for Independent Best Video Part Transition and Santa Cruz Best Video Part Street.

Krux Best Crew offers a division focused on three or more skateboarders coming together to show progression and camaraderie. The Impala Skate Rising Award recognizes skaters who work to make a difference in their communities. Those with standout tricks are honored with the Independent Best Trick Street and Skatelite Best Trick Park awards.

The event will be judged by legendary female skaters Jaime Reyes, Elissa Steamer, Vanessa Torres, Alex White and Olympic skateboarder Amelia Brodka, co-founder of Exposure Skate.

An eagerly anticipated and time-honored tradition at The Berrics, the Poseiden Foundation is hosting their 13th annual Ladies Day this November 7th. Created in 2008, Ladies Day at The Berrics, has become the park’s flagship for hosting one of the largest female skate sessions in the world.

Ladies Day welcomes all skateboarders who self-identify as female.

The day kicks off with a skate clinic hosted by the SkateSide [the premiere skateboarding school located in Los Angeles, California], followed by Andy Roy, MCing the traditional skate contest, where this year we have invited the SoCal Skate Series, a new series for the youth in the industry to host our Ladies Day 17 & under and 18 & over contest.

During the first round of contests, Poseiden will be playing music provided by Professional Skater Nika Washington, Skate Designer Marissa Martinez, better known as Mama Skate, and PlayTime Music Projects, artist DJ DAD who believes that Skateboarding & Dance are good for the soul!

After the skate contest, we will be hosting our traditional Skate Session with Las ChicAZ, ChrissySparkleM4ker, and Di’orr Greenwood who together, demonstrate how skaters have no borders, and skateboarding is about having fun!

The day will end with the World Cup Skateboarding hosting the 21 and over Open Skate Contest. We are so excited and honored to have Meme Expert and Professional Skater, Alex White MC the contest and thank YOURIP for being the presenting sponsor with a prize purse of $3,500 and donating 300 skateboards to youth in need! During the Adaptive Skate and 21+ Open Street contest, Skateboarding Legend Jake Brown and Professional Skater Daniel Cuervo (DC the Crow) will be hyping up the Ladies with fun beats and DJing skillz.

Due to current COVID guidelines, space is limited to 20 skateboarders per session and requires a $20 entry fee.

All proceeds from the registration fees will be dedicated to providing skateboards for fostered, orphaned, and homeless youth. For every entry to the event, one underprivileged youth in California will receive a free skateboard deck.

If you thought that the girls snake run at the Mini Ripperz contest looked like fun, the bowl was even better (if that is even possible).

The girls were ripping hard and even though it was 95 degree's no one held back.

Congrats to all the girls for practicing, showing up and killing it!

Thanks to Mini Ripperz for having us!

We had a great time at the Mini Ripperz contest this weekend!  Held at Manzanita Skatepark in Anaheim, the girls were out in full force!  Since the comp was held close to Halloween there were costumes in the early part of the day along with comps in the snake run, bowl and street. It was a full day of skating for the kids - and they were having a blast!

We love seeing events like this for the younger kids - and it was impressive to see both kids and parents cheering for all the girls when they skated. That is what skating is all about.

Thanks to Leah and Christine for having us and to all the volunteers for helping put on a really amazing event!

X-Games Women's Skateboard Street Competition kicked off in the afternoon, where Leticia Bufoni earned her fifth gold and broke the record for most gold in Women’s Skateboard Street history!

This also marked her 12th medal overall, tying snowboarder Lindsay Jacobellis for third-most X Games medals by a woman.

Bufoni entered her fourth run in silver medal position, before throwing down a backside feeble grind on A-frame rail, frontside tailslide to fakie down Hubba ledge, 360 flip up bank to flat, frontside feeble grind, backside lipslide down 6-stair handrail, backside ollie up Euro gap and frontside ollie 180 down 8-stair set to earn gold in the very last run of the competition.

Samarria Brevard added her second X Games medal with silver and Poe Pinson took bronze in her second X Games appearance.

X-Games Women's Park Was Insane Today - Missed It? Watch It Here!

Vista, CA - July 16, 2021 - CA Training Facility: Mami Tezuka, Sky Brown and Bryce Wettstein at the medal ceremony for Women’s Skateboard Park during X Games Summer 2021. (Photo by Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images)

In Women’s Skateboard Park, the teenagers once again ruled the competition - the field had an average age of just 18. Nine days after turning 13, Sky Brown dropped into her first run and dropped a frontside 540 as her last trick. She is the first woman to land it and the only woman who does that trick in competition. However, it was her third run that was her best, which included a frontside 360 box jump, frontside alleyoop 270 on the hip and a backside tailslide through the corner.

19-year-old Mami Tezuka launched herself into silver medal position with her last run, where she stomped a frontside stalefish over the gap in run four, which she had never landed previously.

17-year-old Encinitas native Bryce Wettstein rounded out the podium with bronze. All three riders earned their first X Games medals.

Sky Brown will represent Great Britain and Bryce Wettstein will represent the USA in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Women's X-Games Park was insane today! Along with some great skating, some news was casually dropped in the broadcast stream.

We noticed that Sky wasn't riding her usual ALMOST board with her graphic on it and we were curious about that. We didn't have to wait too long for X-games announcer Lyn-Z Pastrana to share that Sky and Leticia Bufoni have teamed up and have started their own skateboard company, MONARCH. More news on that in the near future we presume.

Enjoy the contest and some great photos below!
