Pro Skateboarder Jordyn Barratt - New Skate & Surf Video - Full Length.
In the downhill world of skateboarding, we have seen girls creating their own media for awhile now, which is super important for their visability. But in the pool/bowl segment of skateboarding that hasn't really been the case - there have been a few instances here and there, but not a lot.
So we decided to do a little Q&A with Pro Skateboarder Jordyn Barratt and get her take on how she came up with the idea to do this new video, and the planning it takes.
So what made you decide to tackle a big project like this?
My mom actually started making a video about me once a year when I was a younger just to kind of show where we were living in Hawaii and what I was interested in doing at the time. Each year it has become more about skating and surfing of course!
Working with a filmer is like a marriage - it's a collaboration of two minds thinking alike but also with each person bring ideas to the table and playing off each other to form even better ideas - how did you ultimately choose the filmer you worked with?
Well, we have tried a couple different filmers that were all good but when we met Guto and saw his work my Mom knew he was the guy for this year! He has worked with girls in the surf world a lot plus he is a skater with a really creative eye and a variety of ways to film so his work is perfect for what we wanted! I love what he came up with and he shot from a lot of cool angles.
The concept you used was brilliant - a great mixture of different types of skateboarding plus surfing, all while evoking the California lifestyle - can you share with us how you came up with your unique concept?
It was actually just meant to be a normal day in my life... I try to skate and surf as much as possible!
You shot at a lot of iconic spots, how many days did you spend filming?
The skate part was actually done at my local park called "Poods" here in Encinitas then we just went down the road to a fun cruising spot that has a good downhill area! We usually film these yearly edits all in one day but the surf was small and the fog rolled in so we do the water part a couple days later. The surf was still really small but it was fun!
You also chose to skate barefoot down a steep hill and do a power slide - very 70's California Old school skateboarding vibe, aka "Soul Skater" - which we love - how was that?
I love doing those! I grew up doing everything barefoot in Hawaii including going to school! I guess now I am just becoming a California girl!
Moving forward, will we get to see more rad videos like this from you?
I hope so! I love working with filmers and hope to do more with Guto and with others because it is fun to see what everyone comes up with!
