Today was the first annual King of the Harbor Championships in Redondo Beach. The contest was put on by the Redondo Beach Police Department and had divisions for 8-12 yrs old and 13-18 yrs old.  The comp took place steps from the water under bright sunny skies and a nice ocean breeze.  About 45 kids (mainly boys) turned out to free skate and compete.  Each competitor was given a free S1 helmet from Kinetca, food from Chronic Tacos, gift bags, and a few also received skateboards as prizes.

Hosted by the Redondo Beach Police Department, the free event aimed to promote safety and build positive relationships between law enforcement and skateboarders.

The South Bay crew of girls, Kala Fernandez, Quinne Daniels, Briel Weingartner & Vianez Morales showed up and it didn't faze them at all that there wasn't a girls division, they just got to work and skated hard. The judges and contest organizers were blown away by the girls, and in the end decided to award them prizes and also crown Vianez Morales with 1st place for the girls "division".

Congrats to Briel, Kala, Quinne and Vianez for showing the crowd how hard girls shred!
