The Boardr LES Skate Event - Shiloh Weighs In & Offers Her Support To Ricci.

Shiloh Catori ~ Image via The Boardr

The Boardr put on a skate event at LES Skatepark in NYC this weekend and the winner in both the men’s and women’s divisions each received $500 and an all-expense trip to Jackalopefest. Second place received $250, and 3rd $150. Awesome right?

Image via The Boardr

In the women’s division, Ricci Tres a 29-year-old non-traditional skater who identifies as female won the contest with her back-to-back tricks and awesome style. Shiloh Catori a 13-year-old powerhouse from Florida claimed second and won $250. 16-year-old Jordan Pascale who competes in these events quite often grabbed third. Points from this contest are added to each skater’s global ranking - which The Boardr keeps track of and you can check out HERE

Ricci - ollie off the ledge

After the contest results were posted on social media the floodgates opened and not-so-supportive comments accumulated on The Boardr Instagram discussing Ricci’s win as well as Shiloh’s Instagram telling her she was the “rightful” winner. Shiloh and The Boardr did not respond to those comments. Fox News also tried to get hold of both parties to weigh in, and to their credit, they both refused to connect.

This morning Shiloh is in Rome where she is trying to focus and compete in the Olympic Qualifiers for Women’s Street and she had this to say about all the drama on social media. (see her Instagram video below)

Shiloh is a 100% skateboarder and wise beyond her years - we are thankful to have people like her in skateboarding making everyone feel welcome.

Congrats to all the skaters on a great contest!

Mariah Duran ~ Photo Credit: Durso

The annual summer Dew Tour competition circles back for its second year at Lauridsen skatepark in Des Moines, Iowa, to host some of the world’s best women, men, and adaptive athletes in skateboarding. California Skateparks has laid down the foundation for the nation’s largest park and a world-class arena for top skateboarders to showcase the highest caliber of skateboarding to the world.

This year’s event is an invite-only competition that focuses on street and park disciplines. Field sizes include 12 skateboarders for the men and eight for the women. Each competition is straight to finals, where participants are allotted three 45-second runs, and their best run counts to their final score. Skateboarders are judged on overall impression on a 1–100-point scale.

2022 also marks the return of the Dew Tour’s Battle of the Shops, featuring mid-west regional skate shops featuring five mid-west regional skate shops: Subsect, Escapist, Familia, Uprise, and Infinity. Each shop will have two team riders represent their store and will be comping on the street course in two heats. The top three shops will then move on to a final where the winners will be placed.

With initial invites sent out, here’s an official first look at the invited athletes you can expect at Dew Tour in Des Moines, Iowa, and be sure to tune in to the live street and park broadcast on DewTour.com/live!

Judi Oyama crushes it at the President's Jam in Poway

Judi Oyama - Photo Tim Stahl

We were stoked to hear that OG slalom racer, Judi Oyama, took some time out of her busy schedule to make the drive from Nor Cal to So Cal to get some time on the hill at the Presidents Day Jam in Poway, CA before heading off to the Texas Sizzler race that's happening next month. In Texas Judi will compete against the other women that made the top 4 qualifiers to compete at the World Skate Games 2022, Oct 24 - Nov 13 in Argentina.

The last time Judi had raced head to head slalom was back in 2019 and at this race the ramp was a double ramp drop in and along with the steep hill it proved to be fast - Judi conquered it with no problems whatsoever.

Judi placed second to Lynn Kramer this weekend and took home a nice prize purse of $350. Lynn received $500 for first.

I'm happy to share that the men and women racing had equal prize money!

Judi hopes to encourage younger girls and women to come try racing slalom.

The Exposure X video premiere took place on Saturday night at The La Paloma Theater in Encinitas, CA, and it was a blast!  So many girls from all over the world submitted parts, and the skating was insane. The evening started with a panel moderated by Exposure founder Amelia Brodka and included panelists Jamie Reyes, Lisa Whitaker, and Lizzie Armanto - great to hear about Lisa and Jamie's experiences in the early days of skate videos and hearing Lizzie talk about doing "The Loop" was so good. Thanks to Exposure Skate for a great evening!

The first annual Venice Sports day happened this weekend and it was so fun!  Coordinated by Alex and Edizen from Venice Paparazzi, Venice was filled with all sorts of  events that were free to the public (everything from pickle-ball, hula hooping, roller-skating, handball and of course, skateboarding) were going off all day long. But the real action was at the skatepark where Vence21 put on the first event since COVID and it was a day to remember!  -There were 100 medals given out along with sponsored prizes for style, best trick and more.

Girls Crew!

The girls jam was packed with girls and women of all ages skating the mini bowl as well as the snake run and the street course. Everyone was having fun and so happy to see people in person that they had missed skating with during the pandemic.

And because events like this really do take a village - here are some of the amazing people who made this day happen:

Bart Saric (owner of Skater Made, skate coach, filmer & director)was on the mic until mid day announcing the ladies jam for us - and he did such a great job. The women and girls were getting pumped with his commentary and he got the crowd cheering for them loudly while they skated.

Isiah and the boys crew

Starting at 2 PM Dan Levy from Juice Magazine was on the mic and Juice live streamed the event as well - for those who live elsewhere or couldn't make it down to the park.

Head judge and contest coordinator for this event was pro skater and legend, Lonny Hiramoto - who could be seen giving out medals for every sick trick or style session he saw.

DJ VRSA (who is also a rad downhill skater) was spinning tunes all day long to get the skaters energized and he ultimately saved the day by having his own portable power  pack!

Big Robert Howard DOWNHILL DOGS provided security & registration and kept things in check throughout the event.

Penny

The always smiling, Kimi Kallman, was in charge of the mountains of product that was handed out to the skaters. This woman in unflappable - do you know how hard it is to organize tons of age appropriate prizes and make sure everyone who skated feels valued? She does that and more!

Photographers:  Chris Hooten, Gale Webb, and Ian Logan.

And a HUGE thanks to our fearless leader of skaters, Skate Park Association's Heidi Lemmon, for heading up the skate event, along with Jeff Greenwood and the OG Jam crew

Big shout outs to Sonya Young Jimenez Superintendent of West Region & Venice Beach,  Melody Valenzuela Gutierrez Senior Recreation Director,  Tristen Marler Venice / Marina Del Rey Field Deputy for council member Mike Bonin of the 11th District Council for City of LA, and of course, life long skater Lance Lemond of the Venice Rec & Parks ground crew. Without them this event woudln't have happened so fast and seamlessly!

2021 Dew Tour Street Skateboarding Course Preview

This year, Dew Tour utilizes a pre-existing cement skatepark that’s been in the works thanks to a passionate local skate scene for over the past decade. The Lauridsen street course designed by California Skateparks made the park with professional-level features to host Olympic-level competitions and accommodate amateur-level skateboarders.

The street details are as follows:

  • Ten ledges that include straight, out, banked, hubba, and down ledges
  • 11 rails that feature flat, down, round, and square options
  • Four different stair sets
  • A plethora of banks, gaps, hips, and endless lines

For the Dew Tour competition coming in May, the course will showcase a few additional course features that will showcase the skaters’ abilities, as well as up the level of difficulty.

They include:

  • A pallet of MTN Dew over the Euro gap
  • Raised platform to expand the existing stair set into an 11-stair set

2021 Dew Tour Park Skateboarding Course Preview

The folks at California Skateparks hooked up Lauridsen with a heavy bowl designed for intermediate-level skateboarders. The bowl features transitions that can accommodate the advanced skaters as they hone in on their tricks, as well as those looking to progress their skill level.

The park terrain details include:

  • Depth range from 4-8 feet
  • Hips, extensions, spine, pump bump, layback walls
  • Pipe and pool coping

2021 Summer Dew Tour to be Held May 20-23 at the New Lauridsen Skatepark

(Carlsbad, Calif.) March 23, 2021 -- Mountain Dew® and Accelerate360’s ASN: The Adventure Sports Network Group announce its annual summer Dew Tour skateboard competition and festival is moving to Des Moines, Iowa and will be held May 20-23, 2021 at the brand new Lauridsen Skatepark The event will include World Skate sanctioned men’s and women’s skateboarding Street and Park competitions, serving as the only U.S. based global Olympic skateboard qualifying events for 2021. Skateboarding will make its debut at the Olympic Games this summer in Tokyo, which were rescheduled in 2020 for July 23 - August 8, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lauridsen Skatepark’s Street and Park courses have been approved as Olympic-level competition venues. The park also includes two skate bowls, a skate promenade, a skate sculpture, stairs, ledges and more. A passionate group in Des Moines, made of Polk County (managers of the Lauridsen Skatepark), Catch Des Moines (Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau), Greater Des Moines Partnership, Skate DSM (local non‐profit) and Subsect (Des Moines skateboard shop), teamed up to make the Lauridsen Skatepark a reality. The skatepark was built by world-class builders California Skateparks - the skatepark architects of the Dew Tour since 2014 -  and is now the largest in the United States. Dew Tour will be the first event to be held at the 88,000 square foot park; the weekend will be part of the grand opening kickoff of Lauridsen Skatepark.

Dew Tour 2021 will host this year’s only global Olympic qualifying event in the U.S. for men’s and women’s skateboarding Park and Street competitions, both as elite level Pro Tour stops. The Olympic qualification system is based on rankings maintained by World Skate, the sport’s International Governing Body.

More than 300 of the world’s top male and female skateboarders will compete in individual Park and Street events for a chance to win the Dew Tour title, while earning valuable points toward their country’s Olympic skateboarding team. As in the past, Dew Tour competitors exemplify the best in each sport. Expected to compete at this year’s event include USA Skateboarding national team members such as Nyjah Huston, Jagger Eaton, Cory Juneau, Mariah Duran, Jordyn Barratt, Brighton Zeuner as well as international skaters Aurelien Giraud (FRA),  Pedro Barros (BRA), Pamela Rosa (BRA), Leticia Bufoni (BRA), Misugu Okamoto (JPN) and Keegan Palmer (AUS).

“The competitive road ahead for these skaters now starts in Des Moines and concludes in Tokyo. Being able to produce Dew Tour in 2021 and have it continue to serve as an Olympic qualifying event, in a brand new home with a world-class venue, is a dream come true,” says Courtney Gresik, Dew Tour VP and General Manager. “There are no words to express what we all have globally battled in the past year. We couldn’t be more proud to be in this space today. Our teams and partners are poised and ready to put forth a safe, successful event for all involved.”

“Excited is an understatement for how I feel about the Dew Tour coming to Des Moines,” says Angela Connolly, Polk County Board of Supervisors and managers of the Lauridsen Skatepark. “This event is exactly why we made sure that the Lauridsen Skatepark was going to be the biggest in the country. Having the Dew Tour as a partner in opening our brand new skatepark is a true honor and we look forward to them bringing professional skaters and fans to Des Moines to not only help showcase our park but to engage the youth in our community who are so excited to get out there and skate.”

“What better way to introduce Lauridsen Skatepark than hosting the 2021 Dew Tour, one of the premier skating events in the world,” said Greg Edwards, President and CEO of Catch Des Moines. “To host an Olympic qualifying event is an awesome showcase for both this new facility and the city of Des Moines. Given the circumstances, this isn’t just an event, but a celebration, and I assure you it will bring the WOW factor.”

With the current COVID-19 pandemic, details around hosting public spectators are being evaluated amongst Dew Tour, World Skate, and local and state event partners as it pertains to safety and health of athletes, staff and potential fans. More information surrounding this will be announced at a later date.

Dew Tour will be livestreamed in its entirety on DewTour.com, Facebook Live, YouTube and other major platforms for a total of 25+ hours of LIVE video.  Additionally, more than four hours of Dew Tour coverage will air on NBC and NBCSN this summer. Stay updated at

Black History Month ~ We Honor Samarria Brevard For Paving The Way.

In honor of Black History Month we wanted to shout out a female skater who is currently paving the way in the skate industry for so many others. Twenty seven year old, Samarria Brevard, from Riverside, CA  has quietly had a lot of "firsts" in skateboarding - more than you may realize!

In 2016 Samarria Brevard became the first Black woman to ever have a pro model board  - this one was with Hoopla, and after that things really took off...

2017 saw Samarria landing on the podium at the X-Games in Minneapolis and taking home the silver medal for women's street - no other Black woman in skate history had made podium at the X-Games, until now. With a tre flip down the 12 stair no less!

That same year, she was selected to be part of Thrasher's "King of the Road" tour as a guest of the Enjoi team - winning the mystery guest MVP!

Also in 2017 (yes, it was a hell of a great year for Samarria!)  she broke down barriers and became the first Black female to have a full part in a skate film - Quit Your Day Job (her part is amazing - if you have not seen this film yet, watch it HERE!)

Later in the year, Enjoi decided she should be a full fledged member of the team and surprised her with her own signature pro-model.

In April 2018 she became the first woman to compete against the guys in the X Games Real Street video contest.

In 2020 Skateism Magazine released issue 6 with Samarria and her beautiful smile plastered on its cover. You can get the issue HERE

In the September 2020 issue of Thrasher, Tre Williams did an interview with Samarria and it's pretty awesome - you can read it HERE

Last but not least - did you know that Samarria is on the USA National Team for Women's Street as we head toward to the 2021 Olympics?

Samarria currently rides for  Enjoi, New Balance, Ricta, Bronson, RSQ, Thunder Trucks & Mob
