N-Men The Movie - Featuring Three Female Skaters We Love!

Poster via N-Men The Movie

Get ready for a great documentary film featuring the men and women who paved the way!

“In 1975 the Z-Boys came to life in Dogtown. That same year in Northern California, the N-Men were formed. The Z-Boys only lasted 3 years. The N-Men and women have never stopped and have had a global impact on the world of skateboarding. Their story has never been told. Until now.”

We love that three of our Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word sponsored skaters over the years are featured in this film - congrats to Beverly Flood, Kat Folsom and Judi Oyama!

This film by James Sweigert was eleven years in the making and just won the LAFA film award here in Los Angeles - so you don’t want to miss this!

See the film and meet some of the N-Men (and women) in Sacramento when the film shows at The Crest Theater on June 2nd and 3rd!

The USPS Skateboard Stamps Are Here!

Maybe you’ve heard? The US Post Office has issued skateboard stamps!

The “Art of the Skateboard” collection features four different stamps created by indigenous artists (and skaters) Di’Orr Greenwood, Crystal Worl, James Taylor Jr., and Federico “MasPaz” Frum,

Crystal Worl, an Alaskan artist used a blue and indigo salmon formline design to express her Tlingit/Athabascan heritage.

William James Taylor Jr, a self-taught Virginia artist created an energetic red and orange graphic abstraction.

Federico “MasPaz” Frum, a Colombian-born, Washington, D.C.-raised muralist painted a stylized jaguar.

Di’Orr Greenwood, of Arizona represented her Navajo culture with a turquoise-inlaid skateboard that features eagle feathers and colors of the rising or setting sun.

Art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamp issuance, using photographs of skateboards created for these stamps.

The stamps, which will have a printing of 18 million, are now available at your local post offices and also on the USPS website - so it’s easy to get these collectors items! We can only hope we gets some mail with one of these rad stamps on it!

Join SkatePal and Volunteer in Palestine!

Join SkatePal for a month or two between April and September 2023 and help with the running of skateboarding classes!

Based either in Asira Ash-Shamaliya or Ramallah, you’ll be helping local skaters with the running of skateboarding classes for the local community. Some skateboarding experience is required, but you don’t have to be an expert - as long as you’re comfortable teaching others!

We especially encourage applications from female skaters to support the growing scene in Palestine - our participants' gender split is around 41% female : 59% male and we’re hoping to keep bringing it closer to 50:50 or beyond.

Volunteers who speak Arabic will be prioritized, but we’re open to anyone willing to learn as they go!

A Beautiful Short Skate Film From Scotland - "A Land For Everyone"

A Land for Everyone | Outdoors, Adventure, Skateboarding For All

A land in skateboarding is to do a trick successfully, and this land - the outdoors, skateboarding and adventure - is for everyone.

‘A Land for Everyone’ is a project and short film following skateboard and adventure photographer Hannah Bailey and skateboarder Lyndsay McLaren as they explore the highlands of Scotland. As women who grew up in Scotland, Hannah and Lyndsay's teenage selves never imagined a career in skateboarding would be possible, so this adventure is a nod to their childhoods and the journeys they have been on ever since.

In the short film by Rachel Sarah, we follow them through the wild, winding roads of Torridon as they explore the belief that ‘respect, protect and share’ applies in the outdoors, skateboarding, sport, the land, and everyday humanity.

As we revisit and reclaim the highlands and lowlands of their youth, their goal is to challenge perspectives. Combining their love of adventure and the outdoors with their passion to protect it and invite more people into these spaces, they demonstrate that you don’t have to fit the stereotypical narrative for what a skateboarder or outdoors person looks or acts like to embrace everything that the land has to offer.

Olympic Skateboarder Poppy Starr Olsen Has A Book Coming Out!

We are so stoked to see that one of our favorite Olympic skateboarders, Poppy Starr Olsen, has a book coming out and we can’t wait to read it. Poppy is as talented off her board as she is on. She’s done various projects with her artwork over the years (did you know that she used to draw for hours on the long flights from her home in Australia to California for comps?) but this is her very first book and we are so excited for her!

Here are the details on the new book which will have to tide you over until its release date 2 months from now - but pre-order now so you get a copy as soon as it’s released!

A funny and fresh novel for young readers from Australian Olympic skateboarder and creative soul Poppy Starr Olsen. written with Jess Black, author of the bestselling Kaboom Kid series.

My name is Poppy Starr Olsen. I’m twelve. I’m a bit of a dreamer. Okay, a lot of
a dreamer. I love drawing and being creative. I also swim, surf and skate. And, well, this is my story . . .

You’ll meet my family. They’re really loud but I love them to bits. And you’ll meet my friends - they’re so cool.

There’s some drama in my story, too. Think: an awesome skate comp I’m not allowed to enter, but then I am and it’s going to be canceled! I have to figure out how to save the comp and work on my best tricks in the bowl and keep up with my school work and create my art. There’s so much to do! But it’s an epic adventure.

You can pre-order Poppy’s book in AU HERE and if you live in the USA HERE

Pro Tip: While you’re waiting for Poppy’s book to arrive, tune into the movie TALL POPPY, which is an awesome documentary about Poppy’s life as a pro skateboarder that follows her through her younger years, up until the Olympics. We give it a solid 10!
