Twelve Skateboarders Named to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team for the Paris Games

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – Following the last stop of the Olympic Qualifier Series in Budapest, Hungary, last week, Team USA athletes for skateboard park and street filled all 12 allotted roster spots to comprise the 2024 U.S. Olympic Skateboard Team. Skaters on the team range in ages from 16-29.

Each of the four events—men’s park, women’s park, men’s street, and women’s street—will feature 22 athletes at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, for a total of 88 skateboarding athletes overall. For qualifying, the points are allocated into three parts: one-third of each athlete’s points are allocated from prior World Skate competitions from June 2022 - March 2024 - one-third from the Olympic Qualifying Series (OQS) stop in Shanghai, China, and one-third from the OQS stop in Budapest.

"This group of talented skaters has been through a journey on this quad and worked so hard through all the changes and challenges,” said Whitney Carter, director, internally managed sports, at the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. “I’m just really proud of this team, and supporting them through this process has been an honor.”

The team is comprised of the following athletes:

Men’s Park                                            Women’s Park

Gavin Bottger (Vista, CA)                    Bryce Wettstein (Encinitas, CA)

Tate Carew (San Diego, CA)               Minna Stess (Petaluma, CA)

Tom Schaar (Malibu, CA)                    Ruby Lilley (Oceanside, CA)

Men’s Street                                          Women’s Street

Jagger Eaton (Mesa, AZ)                     Poe Pinson (Fernandina Beach, FL)

Nyjah Huston (Davis, CA)                    Paige Heyn (Tempe, AZ)

Chris Joslin (Hawaiian Gardens, CA)  Mariah Duran (Albuquerque, NM)

Skateboarding debuted at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which were held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. brought home its first Olympic skateboarding medals when Jagger Eaton and Cory Juneau earned bronze medals in street and park, respectively. In addition to Eaton, Nyjah Huston, Bryce Wettstein, and Mariah Duran will return for their second Olympic Games.

In Paris, park skaters will have three runs of 45 seconds each. Winning runs usually feature between five to eight tricks. Runs are judged on five criteria: difficulty and variety of tricks performed, quality of execution, use of the course, flow and consistency, and repetition. The score of the highest run counts. The top eight athletes qualify for the final, which will follow the same format.

For street in the qualifying rounds, skaters will have two runs of 45 seconds each. Winning runs usually feature six to seven tricks. The final round consists of the trick portion. Athletes are allotted five trick attempts for two scores. One run score (100 points maximum) and two trick scores (each worth 100 points) will make up a total score of up to 300 to determine the winner. The top eight athletes qualify for the final, which will follow the same format.

Olympic skateboarding coverage will be live-streamed on Peacock, NBC, CNBC and USA Network. Visit NBC Olympics for the full schedule.

Team Rider Minna Stess Makes The USA Olympic Team For Women's Park Skateboarding!

What a weekend! I think everyone was watching women’s skateboarding and the last QS in Budapest to find out which 22 women made the finals in women’s park skateboarding. I know that we were glued to our couch watching qualifiers, semi-finals, and finals! There were a lot of “holding your breath” moments throughout. With six Americans vying for just three spots (no alternates!), it was a showdown.

At the end of the weekend, it came down to Minna Stess, along with Bryce Wettstein and Ruby Lilley, who punched that Olympic ticket for Paris! Congratulations to these women as they move forward in representing the USA in Women’s Park Skateboarding!

Big congrats Minna - we are so stoked for you!!

Bigfoot Magazine - Issue 3 is Out Now and It's Just What We Needed!

GN4LW Team riders Katelyn, Klara, Mayzie, Maya and Mazel with the new issue of Bigfoot Magazine - Photo Ian Logan / at Exposure Skate 20222

When I was skating in the 70s, I dreamed of a day when I’d be able to buy a skate magazine that was filled with photos and articles about skaters that were not guys. I would have even settled for opening Skateboarder Magazine and seeing pages and pages of girls skateboarding vert, but that was just not the case.

Fast forward to 2022 and why we are such HUGE fans of Bigfoot Magazine and have absolutely devoured the two previous issues. But we have to say that Issue 3, which launched at Exposure this past weekend, might just take the cake! With the words TEEN SKATER across the top (poking fun at those teen magazines that told us the best way to get a boy to like us and how to put on make-up) with Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word team rider Minna Stess flying high on the cover, it is everything we dreamed that a skate magazine could (and should) be.

The genius behind this magic is the tireless Meghan “Migz” McGuire, who designs Bigfoot, takes a lot of the photos, writes 90% of the hilarious articles, drums up advertisers, handles distribution, and everything else it takes to get a full-fledged magazine like this out there! Migzy comes up with so many awesome ideas for articles and interviews (shout out to Amy Caron for the great interview with Minna!) and always makes sure to lift up and inspire this large community of non-traditional skateboarders with her photos and words. The catchy headlines and magazine issue themes make it even more special.

Without women like Migz paving the way, we’d be stuck trying to be accepted and featured in traditional male-dominated skate magazines, and that recognition for non-traditional skaters is the exception, not the norm.

Fast forward to Exposure Skate Comp this past weekend - we surprised team riders Klara, Maya, Katelyn, and Mazel and our newest team rider, Mayzie, with a first glimpse of the new issue. When they opened the magazine, their eyes got wide, and they couldn’t believe that some of the Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word team riders were featured in a genuine skate magazine - with photos of them shredding skateparks around Southern California and their names highlighting the two-page spread.

That is the magic of Bigfoot Magazine.

You can buy Bigfoot Magazine Issue 3 HERE.

More Video Goodness From the GN4LW X BTS Skate Night at Volcom HQ!

We’re still reliving every minute of the Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word x Bridge to Skate “Girls and LGBTQIA+ Skate Night” at Volcom HQ!

So many people showed up to skate and have fun in an amazing private skate park that most people never get the opportunity to skate. We had kids as young as a year old learning to ride a skateboard with their parent’s help to adult skaters who were stoked to have a night out skating with friends of all ages.

Adult skaters Hana Zanzi, Jessie Frietze, Kimi Kallman, Elise Crigar, and Ricci Tres were immediately part of the crew, taking over the mic, filming everyone, starting an impromptu contest for the younger kids, and giving out swag. It was a full-blown collab effort, and we love it when everyone is so hyped that they get involved.

USA Women’s Park Team rider, Minna Stess, rolled in and impressed everyone with her ollie over the Volcom Stone. At one point, we had three people filming that trick from various angles, and the photos and video are sick!

Huge thanks to everyone who came out and skated and had a blast - you make this all worthwhile!

Bridge to Skate and Girl Is NOT a 4 Letter Word hosted a skate night at the Volcom HQ park last night, where the kids were invited to come down and skate, eat snacks and get a whole bunch of cool free stuff. That’s it. Just come skate this killer private park, and in return, we will shower you with gifts. Oh, also, we’re going to invite Olympic high flyer Minna Stess to come hang, and GOAT Ricci Tres will be there too, ripping the park and killing it on the mic. Say whaaatt??

And with over 237K watching the live feed on TWITCH - the event was a huge success!
