1. Pom Pom x Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word Skate Deck - We did our very first collaboration deck with Pom Pom Skateboards and we love the rad graphics that are infused with elements from our logos and artwork throughout the years. The beautiful teal color on bottom and pink wood stain on top makes it so beautiful you may want to hang it on the wall! But at 8.5 wide this is the perfect board to ride if you want some stability when you skate and to have a smooth ride. It also gives all proceeds back to our fiscally sponsored non-profit GN4LW Movement! $70 and there is a 15% off coupon on the site!

2. Four Wheels and a Board: The Smithsonian History of Skateboarding - this new book by co-authors Jane Rogers and Betsy Gordon, designed by skaters Elise Crigar and Alex Barnes, is a fresh take on the history of skateboarding. You Need to be at Bigfoot Magazine's DIY Series of Events!

This is so BRILLIANT! Bigfoot Magazine is doing exactly what we wish we’d see non-traditional skaters do more of - get out of the man-made (perfect) skateparks and skate DIY! Back in the day, we skated ditches, full pipes, abandoned pools and more - this is where you really learn to “figure it out”. Which makes you a better skater overall.

Migz - the brainchild behind Bigfoot Magazine has started a series of events with skate session meet-ups at super cool DIY spots. One of our favorites spots that just re-opened is San Pedro’s Channel Street - which just happens to be the second one on the “Try DIY” list.

Bigfoot Magazine - Issue 3 is Out Now and It's Just What We Needed!

GN4LW Team riders Katelyn, Klara, Mayzie, Maya and Mazel with the new issue of Bigfoot Magazine - Photo Ian Logan / at Exposure Skate 20222

When I was skating in the 70s, I dreamed of a day when I’d be able to buy a skate magazine that was filled with photos and articles about skaters that were not guys. I would have even settled for opening Skateboarder Magazine and seeing pages and pages of girls skateboarding vert, but that was just not the case.

Fast forward to 2022 and why we are such HUGE fans of Bigfoot Magazine and have absolutely devoured the two previous issues. But we have to say that Issue 3, which launched at Exposure this past weekend, might just take the cake! With the words TEEN SKATER across the top (poking fun at those teen magazines that told us the best way to get a boy to like us and how to put on make-up) with Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word team rider Minna Stess flying high on the cover, it is everything we dreamed that a skate magazine could (and should) be.

The genius behind this magic is the tireless Meghan “Migz” McGuire, who designs Bigfoot, takes a lot of the photos, writes 90% of the hilarious articles, drums up advertisers, handles distribution, and everything else it takes to get a full-fledged magazine like this out there! Migzy comes up with so many awesome ideas for articles and interviews (shout out to Amy Caron for the great interview with Minna!) and always makes sure to lift up and inspire this large community of non-traditional skateboarders with her photos and words. The catchy headlines and magazine issue themes make it even more special.

Without women like Migz paving the way, we’d be stuck trying to be accepted and featured in traditional male-dominated skate magazines, and that recognition for non-traditional skaters is the exception, not the norm.

Fast forward to Exposure Skate Comp this past weekend - we surprised team riders Klara, Maya, Katelyn, and Mazel and our newest team rider, Mayzie, with a first glimpse of the new issue. When they opened the magazine, their eyes got wide, and they couldn’t believe that some of the Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word team riders were featured in a genuine skate magazine - with photos of them shredding skateparks around Southern California and their names highlighting the two-page spread.

That is the magic of Bigfoot Magazine.

Non-Traditional Skateboarders Had a Night Like No Other...

When you put out the word that Bigfoot Magazine, a non-traditional skateboard magazine is having a party to raise funds for issue three, and it’s announced that USA Olympic Women’s Park skateboarder Bryce Wettstein will be skating and singing, you get an incredible crowd of diverse people showing up!

Instead of just the typical skateboard peeps, there were musicians, artists, some of the Moxi Rollerskating crew, neighbors wanting to support, and quite a few mini shredders from the skateboard scene. Parents let their kids roam free, skating the sidewalk (complete with a rail) out front of Bigfoot Magazine’s offices, and Bryce showed them a few tricks, which was the start of a really fun evening.

Later, Bryce and pro skateboarder Amy Caron took to the stage to sing and play, and the songs ranged from some of Bryce’s original material to old favorites like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” People danced, sang along at times, and just took it all in. Their voices were beautiful, and the acoustics inside were perfect.

Last but not least, the evening ended with a raffle, and all sorts of great prizes were given out. The kids went home tired and stoked, their parents enjoyed themselves, and the rest of us had a fantastic Saturday night meeting new people and knowing that Bigfoot Magazine Issue 3 - will be going to press soon.

Keeping media and brands that are run by and focused on non-traditional skateboarding is so important - thanks to everyone that came out to support!!

Bigfoot Magazine Has a Collab Board at Tactics!

We are HUGE fans of BIGFOOT Magazine and founder Migzy, so when Tactics announced that they were releasing a BIGFOOT board in support - we were so stoked, and you should be too!

This via Tactics… (check out their Instagram for the super fun video!)

It’s the early 2000’s in sunny Southern Oregon; Meghan “Migzy” McGuire heard a tale of a girl down in Modesto that was absolutely ripping. As members of their own budding non-traditional local skate scene, Migz and her friend Amy were SO hyped on this unknown shredder. 👾 It was as if she had spotted the rare Crested Caracara… or had seen BIGFOOT.”

This skater ended up being Vanessa Torres, and almost 20 years later, both the non-traditional skate scene and Migz and Vanessa’s friendship have blossomed into something special.

Seeing non-trad skaters isn't like seeing BIGFOOT anymore. @bigfootmagazine is here to keep skating fun, simple, spicy, and to encourage the fringe to have fun with friends & skateboards.
