Barratt will be on hand to perform a demo for the crowd, sign autographs and give girls new (and some not so new) to skateboarding some encouragement and camaraderie.

G.R.O.W’s event takes place on Saturday, April 29 from 3-7 PM at the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark at 103 Sabine Street. All girls and all abilities are welcome to join in the fun, skate, watch and cheer each other on. This event happens just once a year and is so much fun!

GN4LW Team Riders Featured in the Hermosa Beach St Patrick's Day Parade!

Evette, Maya, Klara, Mazel, Briel, Brooke and Cindy - All photos by Ian Logan

We were asked by “Boards Across Hermosa” to be part of the 27th Annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade here in Hermosa Beach and we couldn’t say no! We rounded up some of our team riders and made a plan. A special green Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word hat was made, clover balloons were brought in along with various shades of green beads to add some green to our skate wear.

The weather started off with a heavy mist, but as we got closer to parade time the weather shaped up and the street dried up enough to skate the parade route, give out stickers and wave to the crowds.

Team riders, Maya, Klara, Mazel, Evette, Briel and Brooke joined Cindy in skating the entire parade route!

Thanks to the Hermosa Chamber of Commerce, City of Hermosa Beach and Boards Across America for this fun opportunity!

GN4LW Featured in New Smithsonian Book!

We’re excited to kick off Women’s History Month with this exciting news!

The very first demo of the Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word x Dusters cruiser board is featured as a two-page spread in the Smithsonian Museum’s new book, Entertainment Nation. We are thrilled to be in a book that is about all things entertainment, not just skateboarding. Why? It helps us reach a new and larger audience so we can continue doing what we do to help push and promote non-traditional skateboarding.

This black version of this board is also on display in the current exhibit “GIRLHOOD: It’s Complicated”, which has left the museum in Washington D.C. and is traveling across the USA for the next few years. You can find out more about seeing the exhibit HERE

You Need to be at Bigfoot Magazine's DIY Series of Events!

Bigfoot Magazine’s Try DIY Event Series - Team Rider Katelyn West featured ~ Photo Ian Logan

This is so BRILLIANT! Bigfoot Magazine is doing exactly what we wish we’d see non-traditional skaters do more of - get out of the man-made (perfect) skateparks and skate DIY! Back in the day, we skated ditches, full pipes, abandoned pools and more - this is where you really learn to “figure it out”. Which makes you a better skater overall.

Migz - the brainchild behind Bigfoot Magazine has started a series of events with skate session meet-ups at super cool DIY spots. One of our favorites spots that just re-opened is San Pedro’s Channel Street - which just happens to be the second one on the “Try DIY” list.

We have to thank all the support this event was given this year, not only by our amazing sponsors but also Girls Play LA,  LA Parks and Rec, and the City of Los Angeles.

We say this every year, but it is so true... The best part of this event is seeing so many girls come out and skate, meet one another, and form friendships, and they now have a group of girls to continue skating with throughout the year. That's what keeps these girls progressing.

Huge thanks to the City of Los Angeles, LA Recreation and Parks, Venice Recreation Center, Venice Art Walls, DJ VRSA, Skate Park Association International, Heidi Lemmon, Lance Lemond, Kimi Kallman, Bart Saric our fabulous announcer, Lonnie Hiramoto, all the judges and volunteers, the photographers - Lauren Muller, Gale Webb, and Chris Hooten, who covered the event, as well as the numerous sponsors who sent so much product that the girls went home with a big bags of swag.

Hope to see everyone again next year!

Thanks to Chris Hooten for the use of all his images!

The GN4LW Team At Exposure Skate!

Maya Kenny ~ Photo Ian Logan

Our Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word AM team riders had such a great time at Exposure Skate! All six girls (Maya, Klara, Katelyn, Elle, Mazel, and Mayzie) skated in the bowl contest - four in the advanced division and 2 in Intermediate. Elle is a past Exposure competitor, but for the other girls, this was their first time competing at this fantastic contest that skaters from all over the world come to, and they handled it well!

Pro team rider Minna Stess (fresh off her 3rd place podium finish in Rio) opted to compete in the “longest Grind” event at Exposure, and it was so much fun to watch these skaters push it for so many coping blocks!

Save The Date - The Venice Ladies and LGBTQ Jam is Almost Here!

This is one of our favorite events of the year! Not only because Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word is a co-host of the event, but because this is the day that non-traditional skaters take over Venice Skatepark for a fun day of skating and competing. From the youngest skaters in the “Pup Cup” to 25+ skaters, this event has something for everyone! We hand out medals and so many prizes from our awesome sponsors - it really is the best! In past years, we have seen over 100 non-traditional skaters show up and compete - skaters from all over the world to skate the legendary Venice Skatepark with us!

Save the Date, and we can’t wait to see you there!!

Non-Traditional Skateboarders Had a Night Like No Other...

Bryce Wettstein hitting the rail at teh Bigfoot Magazine party - Photo Ian Logan

When you put out the word that Bigfoot Magazine, a non-traditional skateboard magazine is having a party to raise funds for issue three, and it’s announced that USA Olympic Women’s Park skateboarder Bryce Wettstein will be skating and singing, you get an incredible crowd of diverse people showing up!

Instead of just the typical skateboard peeps, there were musicians, artists, some of the Moxi Rollerskating crew, neighbors wanting to support, and quite a few mini shredders from the skateboard scene. Parents let their kids roam free, skating the sidewalk (complete with a rail) out front of Bigfoot Magazine’s offices, and Bryce showed them a few tricks, which was the start of a really fun evening.

Later, Bryce and pro skateboarder Amy Caron took to the stage to sing and play, and the songs ranged from some of Bryce’s original material to old favorites like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” People danced, sang along at times, and just took it all in. Their voices were beautiful, and the acoustics inside were perfect.

Last but not least, the evening ended with a raffle, and all sorts of great prizes were given out. The kids went home tired and stoked, their parents enjoyed themselves, and the rest of us had a fantastic Saturday night meeting new people and knowing that Bigfoot Magazine Issue 3 - will be going to press soon.

Keeping media and brands that are run by and focused on non-traditional skateboarding is so important - thanks to everyone that came out to support!!

More Video Goodness From the GN4LW X BTS Skate Night at Volcom HQ!

We’re still reliving every minute of the Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word x Bridge to Skate “Girls and LGBTQIA+ Skate Night” at Volcom HQ!

So many people showed up to skate and have fun in an amazing private skate park that most people never get the opportunity to skate. We had kids as young as a year old learning to ride a skateboard with their parent’s help to adult skaters who were stoked to have a night out skating with friends of all ages.

Adult skaters Hana Zanzi, Jessie Frietze, Kimi Kallman, Elise Crigar, and Ricci Tres were immediately part of the crew, taking over the mic, filming everyone, starting an impromptu contest for the younger kids, and giving out swag. It was a full-blown collab effort, and we love it when everyone is so hyped that they get involved.

USA Women’s Park Team rider, Minna Stess, rolled in and impressed everyone with her ollie over the Volcom Stone. At one point, we had three people filming that trick from various angles, and the photos and video are sick!

Huge thanks to everyone who came out and skated and had a blast - you make this all worthwhile!
