Semi-Finals Video, Results + the 8 Women Who Made World Championship Finals in Women's Park This Morning!

If you weren’t up at 3 AM PT, let us fill you in. It was an exciting early morning here watching the 16 female semi-finalists battle it out to see who the 8 would be that move on to tomorrow’s finals! Watch the video above to get a full sense of how hard it was to make finals.

At the end we have 3 skaters from USA, 2 from Great Britain and 3 from Japan. What is unusual is AU and Brazil are out of the final mix. Some of the names you will recognize and a few are a bit newer on the Olympic Qualifier scene - Hinano Kusake from Japan is one to watch, Grace Marhoefer from the USA is coming on strong and Lola Tambling from team GB made a great showing today!

We’d like to extend a huge congratulate to our team rider Minna Stess for making the finals - well done!

The 8 Women Who Move to Finals Sunday AM - Congrats to all!

HERE IS HOW TO WATCH THE FINALS ON SUNDAY

Women's Park Quarter Final Results and Where + When to Watch Semi-Finals!

Image via World Skate

The big news this morning is that FIVE women from the USA have made the semi-finals in women’s park - Grace Marhoefer, Minna Stess (our GN4LW team Rider!), Jordyn Barratt, Bryce Wettstein and Carlin Makibbin. The USA has more skaters in the Women’s Park semi-finals than any other country.

Japan is holding strong as usual with Sakura and Kokona and Kisa in the mix, as well as Hinano leading the way. Team GB has to be stoked, not only has Sky Brown advanced, (which is to be expected) but Lola Tambling as well.

As we know with these comps, some skaters don’t show their full run until finals. Don’t worry that quarter finals were not broadcast live - you can tune in tomorrow AM to watch these 16 women shred to see which 8 make the finals!

Results of the Women's Park Open Qualifiers From Sharaj, UAE

Image via Olympics.com

Most likely, while you were sleeping, the Women’s Skateboarding Park Open Qualifiers took place in Sharaj, UAE. The women will now have a day off in between this Open Qualifier and the Quarter Finals that take place on Friday.

In addition to the 28 female skaters that made it to the quarter-finals - 5 more “pre-seeded” skaters will join them. This makes the field a total of 32 competitors that then gets cut to 16 for the semi-finals. This will be some harsh competition. After semi-finals the field is cut to just 8 skaters for the finals.

Right now Arisa Trew from AU sits in first and GN4LW team rider Minna Stess is sitting in second and the list goes on as you can see below.

GN4LW Team Riders Slay at CASL Nationals!

Elle, Anna, Mayzie and Brooke

When we heard that four of our GN4LW team riders, Elle Warne from Utah, Brooke Benson and Mayzie Feher from Southern California and Anna Shea Reynolds-Madsen from Northern California, were headed out to Florida for the 2nd Annual CASL National Championships we were excited! The chance to travel, meet skaters from all over and skate new parks, is exactly what skateboarding is all about.

Mayzie - is the new 2022 (Double) National Champ in Vert/Bowl and Park/Mini (Girls of all ages)

Mayzie did something that isn’t easy to do, she came home with two huge trophies after winning Nationals for girls (all ages) in Vert/Bowl and Park/Mini! We hope the airlines upgraded her to first class on the way home and gave her ice cream for that double win!

Park Results - Elle took third, Mayzie 1st and Vilja took second - great job girls!!

Elle also made podium in girls Park - nice to see the two teammates up there along with another rad skater, Vilja from Utah.

Big congrats to Brooke for taking 5th in street and to Anna who took 5th in Vert/Bowl and 6th in Park/Mini. They both skated their hearts out and did a great job!

Vans x Alva Skate New Drop Featuring...

Bella Kenworthy skating in the new Vans x Alva Collection

We have love anything Tony Alva puts out, starting with his skate decks back in the day. Now Vans has dropped a new collection of Vans x Alva Skate and we are stoked to see that it features shredder, and Vans team rider, Bella Kenworthy! Celebrating four decades of skateboarding, the new collection drops January 12th - so get ready, because we are sure these pieces will sell out quickly.

Tony Alva back in the day

Vans is proud to announce the latest collection with historically influential skate brand Alva Skates and longtime Vans team rider Tony Alva. The collection draws inspiration from Tony’s imaginative world of creative exploration that spans art, music and beyond, and invites fans and newcomers alike into his creative journey, on and off the board, over the past 40 years.

Vans x Alva - our favorite pair!

The new Alva x Vans colection

Breaking the mold for what a skateboarding company could be, Tony Alva walked away from his board sponsor in 1977 to create one of the most influential skate brands of his time, Alva Skates, just after helping Vans develop the first-ever skateboarding shoe, the Era. Synonymous ever since, Vans and Tony teamed up to create a new collection that nods to both brands’ roots and looks ahead to future generations with help from artist DJ Javier, Vans team rider Bella Kenworthy, and musician KennyHoopla.

Vans Skateboarding Presents Something Else Entirely With Latest Iteration of The Lizzie and New Apparel Collection Designed by Lizzie Armanto, for the skater who doesn’t fit any mold

Vans Skateboarding is proud to announce the latest collection with progressive and influential skater Lizzie Armanto. Designed in close partnership with Lizzie and leading with Vans Skateboarding’s The Lizzie silhouette, the Lizzie Armanto collection was made to represent something else entirely for a new generation of skateboarders.

This season, Vans and Lizzie set out to build a collection that mixes her personal style with functional skate details for a combination of everyday footwear and apparel meant for everyone. The Lizzie, which represents Vans’ first signature skate shoe designed by a woman in 20 years, gets an update in a Quilted Grape Leaf colorway and materialization. The hero of the collection is supported by a head-to-toe line up of apparel and accessories, all boasting Vans’ VR3 designation: strict materials guidelines for products made with one or a combination of at least 30% regenerative, responsibly sourced renewable and recycled materials. Inspired by organic tree patterns and her journey toward living a more sustainable life, Lizzie and Vans created a collection utilizing a mix of organic and recycled elements while incorporating a woodgrain pattern throughout the styles, infusing the apparel and footwear with the uniqueness that defines Lizzie on and off the board.

Created with inclusivity in mind, The Lizzie is built around improved fit and durability — the shoe features a new vulcanized construction, with a higher outsole cup and rounded edges for a stable, broken-in feel. The Lizzie’s standout features include:

  • New micro-waffle tread design and SickStick™ Rubber for maximum grip, flex grooves, and a waffle lug perimeter for durability

  • Universal fit featuring EcoCush™ foam, a 70% biobased PU foam (Fates) partially sourced from plants, to increase boardfeel

  • 100% organic cotton textiles for the quarter-panel, tongue, and lining material

  • Stretch tongue straps for added lockdown and tongue stabilization

  • Floating heel mustache pull for ease of entry

  • 3D molded DURACAP™ toe for durability in high-wear areas

The collection also includes the Armanto jumpsuit, an easy to wear, all-gender apparel option made with 98% organic cotton stretch twill sewn into a relaxed, everyday fit. After debuting a similar look on the world stage in Tokyo, Lizzie partnered with the Vans team to create a jumpsuit like the one that she wore during the event and was excited to include this iconic silhouette in her collection. The Armanto jumpsuit features a button front placket, adjustable waist, straight leg, and novelty tonal woodgrain embroidery at the front and back yoke and patch pockets. Alongside the jumpsuit, the apparel collection includes the Armanto Skate Tote made with 100% recycled PET and a 40% organic cotton Armanto Ticker Sock. The collection is rounded out with a short sleeve ringer tee, LS tee, skate hoodie, skate dress, and skate legging short.

A true embodiment of Vans’ DNA, Lizzie Armanto is an icon of originality and positivity. With her down-to-earth, fashion-forward, barrier-breaking approach, it’s no wonder Lizzie has become a role model to skateboarders around the world. Moving to Santa Monica at age 14, Lizzie quickly became a fixture at local skate park The Cove. While she spent every day refining her skateboarding skills, she never imagined it as a career for herself. It is perhaps this humble attitude along with her unrelenting drive that has paved the way for the iconic milestones she’s achieved today. From being the first female to complete Tony Hawk’s 360 Loop, to gracing the covers of TransWorld Skateboarding and Thrasher, and competing on the world stage in Tokyo, Lizzie is inspiring the next generation of skateboarders to be their most authentic selves.

The Lizzie in Quilted Grape Leaf and Lizzie Armanto Collection are available now at Vans Skateboarding retail locations and at Vans.com/Skateboarding.

2022 USA Skateboarding National Championships Results.

(left to right) Grace Marhoefer, Bruce Wettstein, Ruby Lilley ~ Photo via USA Skateboarding

This weekend was nerve wracking for so many people in skateboarding. It was the weekend of the semi- finals and finals for the 2022 USA National Skateboarding Championships, presented by Toyota, that took place at CATF in Vista, CA. This event determines who will now be on the 2023 USA National Skateboarding Team. (This does NOT determine who will compete in Paris in 2024)

There was a huge new crop of female skaters trying out for the Women’s Street Division and an even larger group trying out for the Women’s Park Team. It was nice to see Jordyn Barratt, Minna Stess, Jordan Santana, Bryce Wettstein and Arianna Carmona still in the mix and competing at high levels. Twelve year old GN4LW team rider, Katelyn West, made the finals and was simply stoked to be skating with women she has looked up to since she started skating.

Rumor has it that the top TWO in each discipline will make the USA National Team and the other TWO spots (there are 4 spots total in each discipline) will be filled by the discretion of USA Skateboarding. We are eagerly waiting for the official announcement. We are also hoping they will share the criteria of how the selections are made for the 2 other spots. Points from previous year? Potential gauged at event? Or?

Stay Tuned!!!

Congrats to all the skaters this weekend!

We say this every year, but it is so true... The best part of this event is seeing so many girls come out and skate, meet one another, and form friendships, and they now have a group of girls to continue skating with throughout the year. That's what keeps these girls progressing.

Huge thanks to the City of Los Angeles, LA Recreation and Parks, Venice Recreation Center, Venice Art Walls, DJ VRSA, Skate Park Association International, Heidi Lemmon, Lance Lemond, Kimi Kallman, Bart Saric our fabulous announcer, Lonnie Hiramoto, all the judges and volunteers, the photographers - Lauren Muller, Gale Webb, and Chris Hooten, who covered the event, as well as the numerous sponsors who sent so much product that the girls went home with a big bags of swag.

Hope to see everyone again next year!
