We love it when we find magazines that feature womxn in skateboarding but unfortunately, those times are few and far between. Discovering Bigfoot Skate magazine’s second issue felt like a breath of fresh air. Seeing page after page of womxn who shred and also have inspiring and interesting stories, made us read the issue cover to cover more than once!

The layout and design are done by Bigfoot’s founder, Migzy, and have a rad 90s feel to them that we love - it feels like you are always seeing something new each and every time you look at the pages.

We also feel that it is super important to support womxn who are making a difference in skateboarding by creating products, shining a light on non-male identifying skaters, and sharing stories that you haven’t seen time and time again. That is Bigfoot Magazine, 100%

Issue Two is available now and while we don’t want to give it all way we can tell you that Samarria Brevard gracing the cover sets the tone. Inside you’ll find articles and photos of skaters like Mama Skate, Poppy Starr, Vanessa Torres, an article on Skate Wild Camp (have you been yet?!) and so much more!

The August issue of Teen Vogue is on newsstands now.

Looks like Vogue.com isn't the only Vogue talking about skateboarding this month. The August issue of Teen Vogue features a full page on pro skateboarder Lizzie Armanto in it's "People Watching" section.

Here's what Lizzie has to say about competing with the guys " It's good because they push me to be a better skater."

What about being one of the few female competitors in a predominately male dominated sport? "Being a female in the sport has it's challenges - you have to make a lot of things happen for yourself"

Well said!

Vogue did it again today - they did an article "An Ode to Great Skater Hair, from Stacy Peralta to Leticia Bufoni" and we are stoked to see our 10 year old team rider Minna Stess rocking our XS x Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word Helmet in it.

We love the quote from VOGUE about Minna "the pre-teen Minna Stess, who continues to break boundaries that belie her age"

Things are seriously changing for the better when we open up a skateboard magazine and see not one, but four shots featuring rad female skaters. Yep, grab the August issue of THE SKATEBOARD MAGAZINE and prepare to be stoked.

Brighton Zeuner in a 2 page spread doing doubles with C.J. Collins , Lizzie Armanto doing a backside diaster, Monica Torres with a nollie heelflip and Sabre Norris getting some major height in the half-pipe.

This issue is definitely one you need to keep for some major inspiration. We are stoked to see how far we have come in girls skateboarding, and excited to see what's next, as we head towards the Olympics. Things are getting better and better for sure!

Great tom see this article in Sports Illustrated about the Women's Park and Street events at X-Games Austin.

It talks about the younger girls being the wave of the future in skateboarding - Pamela Rosa, Mariah Duran, Kisa Nakamura, Jordyn Barratt, and Brighton Zeuner.

"Sixteen-year-old Pamela Rosa established herself as a star. The Brazil native—who comes from an impoverished background—won gold at X Games Oslo three months ago then won the street comp this weekend. Nineteen-year-old Mariah Duran out of New Mexico ended with silver. In the Park competition, Japanese native Kisa Nakamura, also 16, grabbed her first gold. Jordyn Barratt, from Encinitas, Calif., who won bronze, is just 17. Meanwhile Brighton Zeuner, also from Encinitas, finished fourth and is only 11. The future of women’s skating is definitely in capable hands for the foreseeable future."

We're stoked to see skater/surfer Jordyn Barratt featured in a four page spread in the June/July issue of GIRLS LIFE Magazine, available now on newsstands everywhere - we got our copy today at Barnes & Noble Bookstore.

Jordyn talks about skate & surf fashion, what items are the best for performance in each sport, and gives young girls some of the best advice ever:

"My most important style tip though, has nothing to do with fashion. Whether you're surfing or skating or whatever, you're going to get knocked down a lot. (I fall way more than I land.) But as long as you get back up, you'll eventually get it right - and that's the best feeling in the world. My motto? Fall down nine times, get back up 10"

One of our favorite spots to cruise on the internet for female skateboard coverage is Skate Slate's MS. MONTHLY column written by longboarder Cindy Zhou. It's an insanely great roundup of of what's been happening in the world of women and skateboarding for the previous month.

Cindy covers everything from longboarding and downhill,  to vert and street, contests and videos, to gorgeous photos, and personal road trips. It's hands down, the best cross section recap of what's been happening we have seen.

We're giving you a peek at the March edition of Ms. Monthly above, but keep your eyes open and bookmark Skate Slate's site to read the rest, and catch Cindy's  roundup for April - which should be up soon.

While you're checking out the March edition, make sure you watch the video WANDERLOST a short film by Cindy Zhou and Jenna Russo that was filmed on a road trip they did through Australia. Beautiful scenery, rad skating, and fun moments that will make you start planning that road trip with your best friend that you've been talking about forever...

Huge shout out to Skate Slate for being a skateboarding site that encourages, and promotes women in the sport, every single month. 

Make sure you pick up the May 2016 issue of Nylon Magazine, because they've done a huge feature on  all girl skate crews from Los Angeles, Chicago, The Bronx, Phoenix and Brooklyn. 

Some of the crews and names are familiar to most female skaters  - like Natalie Krishna Das & Jean Rusen with the Las Chicaz crew, and Meow's Lacey Baker, & Vanessa Torres. But it's cool to hear about all these other rad girls who are forming their own crews and skating hard.

Why have an all girls skate crew you might ask?

Brandy McDonald of Brooklyn's skate crew says it best "It makes you feel like you are 16 again. Every time we come together and skate it's like a clubhouse."

Leticia Bufoni is the new "it" girl on Canal Off's website. She's modeling more than skateboarding, but looks gorgeous just the same.

We often see fashion editorials with models posing with skateboards and we hear complaints that it's not "real" as the model most likely doesn't skate. Well, Leticia skates - that's for sure, and she holds her own here modeling like a pro.

A full page in fashion magazine Marie Claire on "Skate of The Art" - items the fashion world feels are inspired by skaters and work for mainstream fashion girls to get the " skater look".

Looks cool, but some authenticity thrown in the mix would have been really cool , perhaps some rad skateboard's with interesting graphics that don't belong to major fashion houses (Pucci & Saint Laurent) and perhaps some Vans shoes in the mix...

I used to be able to count on one hand how many times a female skater had been on the cover of a skateboard magazine, luckily that is no longer the case. Women are being featured on covers, in articles, and in ads more and more these days and that's a great thing!

Check out Downhill IDF Champion Emily Pross on the cover of Skate Slate Magazine this month. Great interview by Cindy Zhou and we love that Emily talks about what she feels it will take to create more financial opportunities for women in skateboarding. It's a very interesting read so make sure you pick up a copy!

Yesterday we posted a story we picked up from Vogue about model/skater Natalie Westling and her Vans campaign. The thing is, that wasn't the full story, and thankfully Vans reached out to us last night to assure us that Lizzie is also in this campaign!

We are happy to say that the campaign for the anniversary of 50 years of the SK8-Hi does feature pro skateboarder and Vans team rider Lizzie Armanto, along with skateboarding legend, Steve Caballero, Grammy nominated artist Syd The Kid, punk rock icon Henry Rollins, celebrated artist and animator Jay Howell,  and professional surfer and Vans team rider Wade Goodall as well as international model Natalie Westling , who we featured yesterday.

Seems that Vogue decided to hone in model/skater Natalie and do a piece on her and skew it more skateboarding than modeling, rather than featuring Lizzie - which is of course their choice and they are a fashion magazine. And while we love any girl who gets on a skateboard and skates, lots of GN4LW readers were left wondering, just as we were, where's Lizzie?

It's so awesome that the girls and guys in the skateboard community are making themselves heard and want to know where their favorite female Vans team rider is in all of this.  We are sorry we only had one side of the story here and are glad its now updated with a positive outcome!

Again thanks to Vans for sending us the full press release last night - and we are stoked to know that Lizzie is a huge part of it!

Natalie Westling. Model and skateboarder. She's been skating since she was 3 and has a tattoo that says Skate on one arm and a Vans tattoo on the other. She may not be well know in skate circles (yet) but the Arizona native is combining her loves. In fact her latest modeling gig finds her inking a deal with the iconic skate company to be a brand ambassador for its Sk8-Hi shoe silhouette campaign to celebrate the brands 50th anniversary.

Our only question is where's Vans skater Lizzie Armanto? The two of them together in a look book would have been an interesting pairing and pretty rad to say the least. Hmmm...

Stoked to have written this article on espnW that came out today about pro skateboarder Kat Folsom. Her story is so interesting and different than what you typically expect from a pro skater - it was a great piece to write as most people in skateboarding don't even know her full story.

Team Rider Sky Brown spent her morning in Hollywood last week,  filming and hanging out with the rad girls at the corporate offices of  BeautyCon.  Sky showed up in her favorite pink tulle skirt,  wearing her GN4LW  "I Wish I Was a Skater " tee, and a pair of well worn sneakers,  to take a tour & meet the people who make the BeautyCon  site and event the fun place that it is. 

Sky got to pose with a giant inflatable cupcake against her very own "Sky" backdrop for her photo shoot , skate around Hollywood hitting some banks, and at one point she skated off the top of a dumpster. (more on that later!).
